Should I Replace All Windows at Once?

Feb 14, 2024

Replacing your windows can be a great investment for your home. New windows can offer advanced energy efficiency so cooled air stays inside your home, and the outside temperature doesn’t leak outdoors. New windows also don’t have the permanent cloudiness of old windows with a broken seal and can give your home a lot of curb appeal. But it can be an overwhelming project, whether replacing your windows because of a recent storm or because the original windows are too old to maintain.

At BlueBird Windows & Doors, we serve homeowners in and around Lafayette, Colorado, with high-quality windows and installation services. Learn more about the value new windows can provide and the advantages of knowing whether you should replace one or all of them at a time.

Should I Replace All Windows at Once?

How Do You Choose Windows for Your Home?

Choosing the right windows for your home is important. After all, most home windows should be replaced every 20 years to protect your home from gaps in the seals, which let water and pests in. Replacing your windows on this timeline also allows you to benefit from the latest advancements in energy-efficient technology. Some of the different factors to consider as you explore different window options include:

  • Glass Options: Double-pane windows are popular because of their energy efficiency and ability to trap heat. For cold Colorado winters, you might even consider triple-paned glass.
  • Materials: Some of the most common materials for windows include vinyl, PVC, aluminum, and fiberglass. PVC is a high-quality and cost-effective option that can be sensitive to temperature, while fiberglass is a premium and highly energy-efficient material option.
  • Styles: Depending on the style of your home, you may prefer to replace your windows with sliding windows, casement windows, or double-hung windows.
You can even choose different types of windows for different areas of your home depending on their sunlight exposure, size, and proximity to potential sources of damage.

Benefits of Replacing All Your Windows At Once

Many homeowners wonder, “Should I replace all my windows at once?” It’s a good question, and the answer can vary. For example, if you have windows that are in good shape but one was damaged by a tree branch or ball, then it makes sense just to replace the one.

However, if your windows are fairly old or you’re noticing your energy bill creep up, it’s often best to replace them all at once. Here are some of the advantages Lafayette homeowners can get by replacing every window in one big project:

  • All your windows match: Replacing windows one at a time can make them look mismatched. When all of your windows are installed simultaneously, they all look brand new and will age similarly over time—even if you select different styles.
  • Take windows off your to-do list for 20 years: Worrying about your windows can be stressful. If you replace them all in one big project, you don’t have to worry about them aging for years or continue to wonder how often replacing windows should happen.
  • It’s more cost-effective: When you purchase windows, you’re paying for labor, as well. Replacing your windows one by one is inefficient, and your installation team can install them all at once for a cheaper total price.
  • See more energy efficiency at once: Replacing your windows with energy-efficient models can significantly reduce your energy consumption—especially during hot summers and cold winters. By replacing windows throughout your home, every room is more comfortable with less energy usage.

We had almost all of the windows in our home (14 total) replaced. I felt like Anthony really had my best interest in mind when selecting windows, and there were no pushy sales tactics. They were very helpful and responsive along the way. The installation went smoothly and was all completed in only about 5 hours with no issues! The double lifetime warranty really puts my mind at ease too for the future.
Best windows and installation I have experienced. We had Champion replace some of our windows, but they have ice on the interior of the frames in the winter (I assume due to lack of proper insulation). The Bluebird windows have no icing on the interior, and are much easier to clean. We'll use Bluebird to replace the remaining windows in our house.
I got a lot of quotes to replace a few windows and a patio door and BlueBird was by far the best value. Quality products for a reasonable price. The install went very smooth but there were a few things on the exterior I thought could use a little touchup. They were happy to come out and fix it and the finished result is great. I will definitely use them when I replace the rest of the windows in my house.
