Bay Windows vs Bow Windows

Bay Window Pros and Cons

Bay windows have three separate panes, with one picture window in the middle and a smaller casement or double-hung window on either side. The windows are angled at 45 or 90 degrees to provide a wide view of the landscape outside and are often open to allow fresh air to enter your home. They’re perfect for bedrooms, kitchens, dining areas, and reading nooks, and they only need about 40 inches of exterior wall space.

Bay windows create extra storage underneath, or a window seat that makes the perfect place to lounge in the sun. They’re often found in homes with contemporary styles and traditional styles.

Bow Window Pros and Cons

A bow window is composed of four or more windows that are arranged just like the panes in a bay window, but the angles aren’t as sharp. Each glass section may or may not open to allow airflow into your home, and these windows are commonly found in Victorian-style homes. Bow windows provide beautiful panoramic views outside, and they’re completely customizable to your preferences and space. They’re lovely additions to living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms, as long as you have 80 inches of exterior wall space to devote to their construction.

What’s the Difference Between Bay and Bow Windows?

The main difference between bay and bow windows lies in how many window panes are installed. Bay windows have 3 panes and provide a wide view of your yard. Bow windows, on the other hand, can be composed of 4 or more window panes, offering a panoramic view of your outdoor space. Regarding price, bay windows are the more affordable option, since they require fewer materials and a less complicated installation process. However, bow windows provide better airflow and more options for customization.

When it comes down to it, choosing bay windows vs bow windows is a matter of personal preference. Are you looking for a window with wide views and a window seat? If so, a bay window is the perfect choice. If, on the other hand, you’re looking for something to allow sunlight and fresh air to permeate your space, you may want to opt for a bow window.

Price and space may also determine the right window type for you. Bay windows are more affordable, and they require far less exterior wall space for installation.

We had almost all of the windows in our home (14 total) replaced. I felt like Anthony really had my best interest in mind when selecting windows, and there were no pushy sales tactics. They were very helpful and responsive along the way. The installation went smoothly and was all completed in only about 5 hours with no issues! The double lifetime warranty really puts my mind at ease too for the future.
Best windows and installation I have experienced. We had Champion replace some of our windows, but they have ice on the interior of the frames in the winter (I assume due to lack of proper insulation). The Bluebird windows have no icing on the interior, and are much easier to clean. We'll use Bluebird to replace the remaining windows in our house.
I got a lot of quotes to replace a few windows and a patio door and BlueBird was by far the best value. Quality products for a reasonable price. The install went very smooth but there were a few things on the exterior I thought could use a little touchup. They were happy to come out and fix it and the finished result is great. I will definitely use them when I replace the rest of the windows in my house.
